Conventional Test Method:

Long-Term (2 year) Rodent Carcinogenicity Bioassay (OECD TG 451) AND Chronic Toxicity Studies (OECD TG 452)

Alternative Test Method:

Name & Description:

Combined Chronic Toxicity/Carcinogenicity Study

The objective is to identify the majority of chronic toxicological and carcinogenic effects and to determine dose-response relationships in a mammalian species following prolonged and repeated exposure to the test compound. Each dose group should contain at least 50 animals of each sex. The three main routes of administration are oral, dermal, and inhalation.

Validation Status:

No information

Regulatory Status:

OECD: TG 453 (2009)

Effect or Potential Effect on Animal Use:

Reduction
(Additional test groups and lengths of exposure are required, perhaps limiting the reduction gains of combining protocols)
