Acute Toxic Class Method

At any of the defined concentrations, two steps are tested simultaneously consisting of 3 rodents of one sex per step. If evidence is provided that one gender is more susceptible than the other, the test may be continued with the most susceptible gender. Absence or presence of compound-related mortality of the animals exposed at one step will determine whether i) no further testing is needed; ii) testing continues for the most susceptible gender only; or iii) testing continues for three male and three female additional animals at the next higher or the next lower concentration level.
